After nearly nine months without even a security patch update, Xiaomi has released the Android 11 update in India for the Redmi Note 8 users. The new OS is coming with a stable MIUI 12, although the current version is MIUI 12.5 Enhanced. That’s not surprising, as we already reported that Redmi Note 8 will receive an Android 11 update in India with MIUI 12. Perhaps, the MIUI 12.5 Enhanced isn’t ready, which might be the reason the upgrade is pushing with a stable MIUI 12.
Xiaomi might be planning to upgrade the Redmi Note 8 to MIUI 12.5 Enhanced, thereby skipping the MIUI 12.5 update. Of course, that’ll take a bit of time before the update is ready, and hence the need to upgrade the Indian variants that have been without any update for months with a stable MIUI 12 build. We expect the Enhanced Edition of MIUI 12.5 to start seeding in the coming days since the update has long arrived in China.
Also, there have been reports that MIUI 12.5 build is ready to start seeding to the global models. Perhaps, that might be an Enhanced version of MIUI 12.5, and we hope to find out when the update is released. Meanwhile, the Indian models have got to upgrade to Android 11 while we wait for the MIUI 12.5 / Enhanced.
The Redmi Note 8 Android 11 update in India is seeding with a version number – MIUI 12.0.1.0 RCOINXM – and weighs 2.2GB. Although the update log says otherwise, it has introduced the feature of Android 11 while bumping to the Android security patch level to increase system security and stability.
Meanwhile, the update is exclusive to Mi Pilots at the moment. They’ll preview the build, and we expect the public rollout in the coming days. Also, know that after upgrading your Redmi Note 8 to Android 11, third-party launchers will stop working. There are other minor issues with Xiaomi Android 11 build, and hence, we recommend a backup before upgrading.
