Xiaomi has updated a bunch of its phones to MIUI 12 both premium and mid-range phones, but for whatever reason, the Redmi Note 8 alongside the Redmi Note 9 Pro are yet to receive the new Android skin. But unlike the Redmi Note 8, which is in a closed beta testing for the MIUI 12 and Android 10, Redmi Note 9 Pro isn’t participating in any beta test. Recall that the latter isn’t officially available in China, and as such, it’s not eligible for a closed beta test, which is probably why the MIUI 12 update for the device is yet to start seeding.
Typical of Xiaomi, they usually release major updates to their device in China first before making it available for the global variants. And since the Redmi Note 9 Pro isn’t available in China, it hasn’t been given much attention, but thanks to a Xiaomi executive, we now have an ETA for the Redmi Note 9 Pro MIUI 12 update.
According to Alvis Tse, the General Manager Xiaomi Indonesia and POCO Global, the Redmi Note 9 Pro MIUI 12 update will arrive in September, which is next month. It was during a reply to a user’s query on Twitter, who enquired about the availability of the update for the device. However, he also said Redmi Note 8 will receive Android 10 in July a couple of months ago and guess what, it’s September tomorrow, yet nothing.
With that said, we advise you to take the information with a pinch of salt, the reason being that developers might encounter a bug that’ll likely delay the arrival of the update. However, the device will get the update eventually and even so the MIUI 13 update, given Xiaomi’s policy in rolling out major updates. We promise to keep tabs of any development and report once the update starts arriving.
