The latest Samsung One UI update has made it to a handful of eligible phones, but the impression isn’t good. Those running One UI 5.1 reports a reduced Screen-on Time, which isn’t entirely surprising. However, the rate at which the new update has impacted the battery life of some Galaxy phones should raise concerns.
As usual with any major update, there are always a few glitches and bugs. Most times, battery drain comes into the mix, but according to reports, the impact of the One UI 5.1 on Some Galaxy phones doesn’t seem normal.
On Reddit, users are experiencing a 40% drop in the SOT after upgrading to One UI 5.1. Of course, not everyone is experiencing the bug, but it seems only a particular set of people have their battery life improved rather than affected. Interestingly, the update has supposedly optimized the overnight standby drain, which now stands at 1% from 3%.
How to improve the reduced Screen-on Time on Galaxy phones after the One UI 5.1 upgrade
Naturally, the battery performance will improve with time, as battery drain is always in the mix with every new update. However, it seems Samsung Keyboard is behind the massive battery drop. If you’re one of those using it, you might consider moving to another.
Perhaps, you can clear the app cache and data, as suggested by Samsung’s live support, and restart your device to resolve the issue. Of course, that’s temporary, but we expect the next update to optimize One UI 5.1 for all devices to improve battery life.
To Clear the Samsung Keyboard app cache, you can navigate to Apps from Settings. There, you should tap on storage >>Clear Cache. It’s the same process if you want to clear the app data, but that will restore all settings to default.
Meanwhile, we expect the next update to address the reduced Screen-on Time issue, and you can follow us on Telegram to know when a new update becomes available.
