Early this year, Samsung rolled out the Camera Assistant software that was featured on its most current flagship phones (the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23 series) to other Galaxy devices. According to SamMobile, Auto Lens Switching was previously confined to the Samsung S22 and Galaxy S23 models.

What is Auto lens switching?

The phone determines which lens to use for a certain shot using Auto Lens Switching based on the environmental illumination. The function, which is enabled by default, alternates between a phone’s primary and telephoto cameras. Because telephoto cameras let in less light than primary cameras, if there is insufficient light to utilize the telephoto camera, the phone will use the primary camera and crop the picture to make a zoomed-in shot.

Those who prefer that the phone stays with the lens they picked can disable the Auto Lens Switching option in the Camera Assistant app. The Auto Lens Switching function is now available on the following phones (in addition to the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S23 models) thanks to an upgraded version of the software (version 1.1.01.0):

  • Galaxy Note 20
  • Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
  • Galaxy S20
  • Galaxy S20+
  • Galaxy S20 Ultra
  • Galaxy S21
  • Galaxy S21+
  • Galaxy S21 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Fold 3
  • Galaxy Z Fold 4

To use the Auto Lens Switching function, your phone must be running One UI 5.1, the most recent version of Sammy’s mobile interface, in addition to having the newest version of the Samsung Camera Assistant app. The new Camera Assistant may be found in the Galaxy Store by following the link below.
