According to Canalys reports, A lot of issues brought down the global smartphone shipment by 11% among which are the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the omicron variant which led to a shutdown in China, as well as a general unfavorable economic climate and slow demand. But amidst all these negative effects, Samsung dominates Q1 2022 smartphone shipments.
The Korean brand debuted a few devices this year which pulled the attention of the Android community. It released the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE in early 2022 followed by the flagship Galaxy S22 series followed by an upgrade in the A-series. These handsets put up quite a competition for the other phone brands across the continent and explain why Samsung dominates Q1 2022 smartphone shipments.
How Samsung dominates Q1 2022 smartphone shipments
Samsung increased to 24% market share in the first quarter of 2022 from 22% of last year’s early quarter, Apple had a boost in the Q4 of 2021 following the release of a model towards the end of 2021. Meanwhile, other brands in the top five dropped a bit.
Apple came in second place with the iPhone SE (being the apple mid-range smartphone plus being one of the cheapest 5G smartphones) which pulled in lots of sales for the brand. The iPhone 13 was a strong selling device but Samsung remains in the top spot with the solid demand for the flagship S22 and the A53 which also support 5G.
Xiaomi was in third place with a 13% market share(though a one percent drop from 14% last year)thanks to the high sales of the Redmi Note series. The Oppo brand came down by one percent too from the 11% a year ago but higher than Q4(+1%) while Vivo sits at 8% from a 10% of last year’s quarter. From all sources and analysis, it is quite clear that Samsung dominates Q1 2022 smartphone shipments.
The Canalys reports left a hopeful message for the smartphone users saying” the good news is that the painful component shortage might improve sooner than expected which would certainly help relieve cost pressure”
