Recently, the Virtual Memory function has begun to resurface. It was Oppo the first introduced such in recent times; something that has been there for most operating systems, Android inclusive. However, with the recent re-invention, smartphone OEMs have made it easy to be controlled. Xiaomi has something similar (RAM Extension) and has already made it to a handful of their smartphones. According to reports, Samsung is now bringing the same to its mid-range lineups, and has promised up to 4GB of RAM.
Samsung calls it “RAM Plus.” The South Korean tech company is currently pushing the feature via a recent update rolling out for the Galaxy A52s 5G. It’s interesting to see Samsung prioritizing devices that perhaps need this feature since it aims to add more RAM. And yes, that is what the RAM plus does; it converts part of your device’s internal memory to virtual RAM. This feature will add up to 4GB of RAM, which could enhance your device’s performance.

It’s unclear at the moment if Samsung Premium phones will be getting the RAM Plus feature as Xiaomi did, but that’s unlikely. Since the feature started seeding with mid-range phones, it’s probably a feature exclusive for the low end. Perhaps, those are the phones that need the virtual RAM, given that they come with relatively low amounts of RAM. Most flagship phones now feature a minimum of 8GB of RAM, and that’s enough to handle the most demanding tasks.
Nevertheless, we expect other phones and regions to receive the feature. At present, Samsung is rolling the RAM Plus function in India with a recent update to the Galaxy A52s 5G. It’s a 250MB build that also improves the camera stability of the device. It has a software version number – A528BXXU1AUH9.
