Samsung is not rolling out a planned upgrade this year

Samsung will skip the One UI 7.1 update this year as the Korean company is yet to finish the development of the One UI 7.0.

Samsung was among the smartphone makers to start testing Android 15 after the first Developer Preview launched. The Korean company usually starts rolling out a stable build after the official release by Google, but that has not happened. It has been over four months since the stable build was released to AOSP, and Samsung still does not know when the update will arrive for eligible users. This uncertainty now means Samsung won’t release a planned upgrade this year.

Things began to take a different route last year when the company didn’t start the beta preview of the build based on One UI 7. It arrived late last year, exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series, with the stable build tipped for January. The official announcement happened during the Galaxy S25 series launch, which debuted with Android 15-based One UI 7 built outside of outside-of-the box.

Usually, new flagship Samsung phones debut with the One UI x.1. That didn’t happen this year as the Galaxy S25 series runs Android 15-based One UI 7. We were hoping the upgrade would roll out sometime in the future, but a new report has suggested otherwise.

According to reports, Samsung will skip the One UI 7.1 update as they are yet to finish the One UI 7.0 build. There are a few issues to be sorted out, which is why the rollout has not started. Interestingly, we do not know exactly when it will begin, but a recent report suggests April.

What happens with Samsung skipping One UI 7.1 update

It will be the first time the Foldable Samsung phones will debut without a refreshed version of One UI. Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 will debut with One UI 7. Perhaps the company wants to release only a single upgrade every year since Google has stepped up the release of a new iteration of the Android OS update.
