Samsung’s recent development with the Samsung Wallet brings significant convenience to students in the United States, as it now supports student ID cards – I mean, why do we have technology around? Let’s take a look at the details of this development.
Samsung Wallet student ID support
The collaboration with 68 colleges and universities, including Penn State, the University of Florida, Central Michigan University, and the University of North Alabama, enables students to link their Student IDs to Samsung Wallet at these institutions. Samsung plans to extend this functionality to more schools through further partnerships.
By linking their Student IDs to Samsung Wallet, students can perform various tasks with just a single tap of their phone. They can use their Student IDs to open doors, access the library and events, make payments for food, and more, simplifying campus life. Additionally, some participating universities allow students to make NFC-based payments at on-campus retailers, vending machines, and other locations using their phones.
The Student ID function within Samsung Wallet comes with two useful options. Fast Mode enables users to utilize their Student IDs with a single press even when the phone’s screen is turned off and locked. The Power Reserve option allows the usage of the Student ID for up to 24 hours after the phone enters sleep mode due to low battery.
To ensure security, Samsung Wallet secures and isolates the Student ID information on the phone, protecting it from digital and physical hacking attempts. The collaboration with Transact Campus, a leading provider of innovative payment and Mobile Credential solutions for connected campuses, enhances the reliability and functionality of the service.
For students who wish to utilize their Student IDs with Samsung Wallet, the process is simple and straightforward:
1. Launch the Transact eAccount Mobile app from the Google Play Store.
2. Follow the starting instructions, then press ‘Get Started,’ and search for your school name on the Mobile ID login screen.
3. Once your identification is verified, select ‘Add to Samsung Wallet.’
Samsung Wallet, introduced as a replacement for Samsung Pay last year, allows users to securely store keys, IDs, credit cards, membership cards, and other items. The app is compatible with a wide range of Galaxy handsets running Android 9 or above, including S, Note, and Z Series models, as well as A Series models. The expansion of Samsung Wallet’s capabilities to include student ID support brings added convenience and functionality to students across participating educational institutions.
