In a strategic move to enhance user experiences within the metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg, the visionary at the helm of Meta, is unveiling yet another feature for one of the metaverse’s cornerstones—WhatsApp. This novel addition aims to transform the landscape of video calls by introducing the capability of screen sharing in video calls, offering users a dynamic way to engage and collaborate. Let’s delve into the finer intricacies of this intriguing update.

All there is to Whatsapp screen sharing in video calls

The essence of the feature is simple: during video calls on WhatsApp, users will now have the ability to share their screens. This opens up a realm of possibilities, allowing the sharing of documents, images, or any content residing on the user’s screen. This development has been meticulously cultivated over the course of several months and made its debut to beta testers in May.

To tap into this functionality, users simply need to tap on the Share icon during a video call. Subsequently, they have the freedom to decide whether to share a specific application or their entire screen. If this concept sounds familiar, it’s because the mechanics bear a striking resemblance to the screen sharing features in applications like Zoom and Google Meet.

The question that looms is whether this is WhatsApp’s strategic chess move to claim a stake in the business turf currently occupied by its competitors. While that remains a puzzle, this feature(screen sharing in video calls) isn’t just confined to the boardroom. The potential applications extend to scenarios like assisting a family member with technical troubleshooting, transcending beyond the realm of mere PowerPoint presentations.

As per the norm, the introduction of screen sharing in video calls is phased, so its presence may not be immediate. However, over time, it will seamlessly weave into the fabric of WhatsApp’s offerings, reaching users across Android, iOS, and the Windows desktop client. In addition to screen sharing in video calls, WhatsApp is elevating the video call experience by embracing landscape format video calls, promising a fresh perspective for users engaging in video conversations.
