Nearby share was enabled on Android smartphones in 2020. Since then the users have been able to transfer files fast, easily, and at no data cost. While Google’s nearby share has been helpful, tweaks just surfaced about the self-share feature coming to Google’s nearby share soon.
The nearby share feature which was introduced two years ago uses Google play services to transfer files to one another across devices but while this feature was considered indispensable, there were still some approvals you need to get past before sharing. The new self-share feature coming to Google’s nearby share through an update will lessen approvals between users’ devices just like the Apple airdrop which is running on iOS and macOS. This self share feature enables the transfer of files without having to receive approval from the device that receives them.
How was the self-share feature coming to Google’s nearby share discovered?
According to Esper’s Mishaal Rahman who shared a screenshot on Twitter from an Android 12 smartphone, it is present in the latest version of Google play services. Though the self-share feature has not started rolling out on devices worldwide. Google is still yet to give an official statement about the details and when it will start seeding.
According to Rahman, the nearby share quick settings menu included your devices option different from the normally hidden option as well as the contacts and everyone option.
As said before about this new self-share feature coming to Google’s nearby share, the Big G has not released an official statement about the details, but we expect the details by may at the Google I/O conference.
