After Google announced its plans to support Pixel phones with seven years of Android updates, we expected Samsung to do the same. The Korean tech company confirmed its plans to provide Galaxy phones with seven years of support during the Galaxy S24 unveiling. Unfortunately, unlike Google Pixel phones, only select Galaxy phones are set to receive seven years of Android updates.
Smartphone makers are improving their build quality, meaning phones now last for years. Most times, the need to change to a new phone is because of a lack of security support, but with the current trend, that will soon be a thing of the past. So far, only Google and Samsung have promised seven years of Android updates, but we expect more OEMs to join.
Meanwhile, while all Pixel phones, starting from the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8, will receive seven years of support, only select Galaxy phones will enjoy that privilege. The company has yet to confirm the phones, but we believe every flagship released going forward qualifies.
And since the new support policy started with the Galaxy S24 series, all the phones in the lineup are supported. So far, only the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are on the list, but we expect it to expand in the coming months.

We will update the list when Samsung confirms more phones it’s supporting with the new policy. Hopefully, some A-series phones will be eligible, and we hope to learn more in the coming weeks.
