Note the Following to Use Nearby Share on Your Windows PC

Before diving into the tutorial, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Your Windows PC should have both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, and both should be turned on.
  2. For better transfer speed, ensure that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Otherwise, the transfer speed will be slower if it defaults to Bluetooth.
  3. Nearby Share is currently only available on Windows 11 and 10 running on 64-bit x86 architecture. It does not support ARM-based PCs. Also, your Android device must be running Android 6.0 or later.
  4. Nearby Share is not available in all countries.
  5. The two devices should be within 5 meters or 16 feet of each other.

How to Set Up Nearby Share on Your Windows PC

Follow the steps below to set up Nearby Share on your Windows PC:

  1. Head to this link and click “Get Started” to download the Nearby Share app on your Windows PC.
  2. Once the download is complete, launch the setup file and let it install.
  3. Next, you will be prompted to sign in with your Google account. You can also use Nearby Share without a Google account.
  4. Once you’ve signed in or selected to use it without a Google account, you can set a name for your PC that will be visible to others. By default, only your contacts can share files with you.
  5. If you’re not using a Google account, select “Receive from everyone” to keep your Windows PC visible to others for a few minutes. After that, your PC will be hidden, and you’ll have to approve requests manually.

How to Share Files/Folders from Android to Windows Using Nearby Share

After following the above steps, you’re ready to share files seamlessly between your Android device and Windows PC:

  1. Open the photo, video, file, or document you want to share on your Android device and select “Share.” Then choose the “Nearby Share” option.
  2. Your Windows PC should now appear on the list of devices. Tap on it.
  3. On your Windows PC, open the Nearby Share app and accept the request.
  4. Your file will transfer from your Android device to your Windows PC immediately. The time it takes to transfer the file will depend on the file size and connection speed.
  5. The file/folder will be saved to the “Downloads” folder by default. If you want to change the destination folder, click the “Settings” icon and choose a new location.
  6. If you don’t want to approve requests every time you transfer a file, change “Device visibility” to “Your devices.” This requires that you use the same Google account on both devices.

How to Share Files/Folders from Windows PC to Android Using Nearby Share

To share files from your Windows PC to your Android device using Nearby Share:

  2. The Nearby Share app will open, and your Android device should appear on the list of devices. Select it.
  3. On your Android device, accept the request.
  4. And that’s it, your file will be transferred.
