Qualcomm has unveiled the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Octa-Core processor. We expect devices running the SoC to debut in the coming weeks, with Oppo, Realme, Honor, and Xiaomi at the forefront. The chip promises a better performance than its predecessor with improvement in all the key areas.

Qualcomm has shifted to TSMC for the latest mid-range chip, fabbed at 4nm node. It is the first in the series to feature ARMv9-based CPU cores. A prime Cortex-A720 core clocked at 2.3GHz, three A720 big cores at 2.2GHz, and four efficient Correx-A78/A55 cores at 1.8GHz.
This adjustment has resulted in an 11% improvement over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip. While the company did not mention details of the GPU, there is a 29% boost in performance. The SoC is also 12% more efficient when compared to its predecessor.
Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 Phones will support up to 1080p+ resolution displays and up to 144Hz refresh rate. They will support Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (upscaling for gaming at up to 4K) and Adreno Fram Motion Engine (frame-gen that doubles the frame rate while keeping power consumption low).
The maximum RAM is 16GB, LPDDR5 (up to 3,200MHz), and there’s support for LPDDR4X (2,133MHz) for companies that might decide to cut costs. You will get a UFS 3.1 storage option with the chip. Most SD 6 Gen 4 phones will support USB-C with an external display of up to 4K @ 60Hz, 10-bit colors, and HDR10+.
Perhaps more interesting, the camera. The chip features triple 12-bit ISPS with support for up to 200MP sensors. You can record videos at up to 4K HDR with a Snapdragon 6 and 4 phone, but the frame rate limit is 30fps. There is support for HDR10 and HLG format for video and 10-bit HEIL for photos. Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 phones: Devices to use the Processor
We understand many smartphone makers are targeting the chip for their upcoming device, which is expected to sell between $100 to $150. Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and Honor will be among the first to debut a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 phone. There’s no time frame when these companies will debut the phone, but you can check back in the next few weeks.
