It has been almost two years since Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC. We were beginning to think they forgot about the lineup, but they have not with the release of Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The SoC is fabricated on TSMC’s 4nm process, boosting the performance by 27%.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 keeps the predecessor’s 1+3+4 structure. The Cortex-A720 prime cores clocked at 2.8GHz, while the three A720 performance cores run at 2.4GHz and the four A520 efficiency cores at 1.84GHz.
According to Qualcomm, the CPU’s performance has increased by 27% compared to SD 7 Gen 3. The GPU has seen a 30% performance boost, thanks to the Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0. This ensures high-performance game scenes for a smooth experience.
With smartphone companies leaning largely on AI, Qualcomm is bringing a 65% increase in AI performance with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. That’s a big jump compared to the previous modes, and we expect smartphone companies to leverage it. When that happens, mid-range phones will not miss on AI features. This involves better image generation, thanks to the Stable Diffusion 1.5.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Phones will support triple 12-bit ISP. It can house a 200MP sensor and record videos in 4K HDR at 60fps. Other features include AI autofocus, white balance, Auto exposure, and hardware stabilization. Additionally, 10-bit HEIF photos and HEVC video formats are supported.
The LPDDR5x memory supports up to 16GB RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 phones will feature 144Hz refresh rate on WQHD displays.
It supports Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF with up to 4.2 Gbos sub-6 GHZ download speed. Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, LE Audio, and Snapdragon Sound with aptX Lossless, Adaptive, and Voice are all supported. With the new XPAN, there will be better coverage for wearables. Audio is handled by the Aquatic DAC with Hi-Fi playback and low distortion.
There is a triple-frequency GNSS, sidewalk-level pedestrian tracking, and lane-level vehicle guidance. SD phones will support USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 and Quick Charge 5.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Phones
Qualcomm will be partnering with many smartphone companies, but it seems Honor will be the first to release a device with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. Vivo will also release a new phone with the SoC. We expect the Vivo S30 to launch soon to arrive with it as well as the Honor 400. We will update this post when there’s a new phone with the processor.
