Qualcomm seems to be changing its approach on its flagship SoC. For years, the company has stuck to one flagship processor and then released an overclock version of it much later. This year has seen a change in trend with the Snapdragon 870 SoC – a refreshed version of Snapdragon 865/865+. The cheap currently runs some affordable smartphones like the Redmi K40, Mi 10S, and the recently unveiled POCO F3. They’re all good value for more smartphones, and it seems that what Qualcomm tries to do with these refreshed chips.
Today, Xiaomi debuted the POCO X3 Pro with the Snapdragon 860 SoC. That makes the device the first Snapdragon 860 phone, and given the specs, it will deliver a robust performance. From the features of the SD 860 SoC, it’s a refreshed version of Snapdragon 855. The SoC boasts of an optimized CPU and GPU. It’s built of 7nm processing, making a power-efficient processor like the Snapdragon 870. The SoC uses an improved Kryo 485 CPU cores with a clock speed of 2.96GHz and Adreno 640 GPU.
Other features of the Snapdragon 860 SoC are essentially the same as the Snapdragon 855. However, as a new processor, it supports recent smartphone trends that are missing in the latter. The SD 860 SoC supports up to 16GB of RAM and several camera features like ultra-wide lens night mode, selfie night mode, and dual video.

POCO X3 Pro

As always, Xiaomi is the first to debut the first Snapdragon 860 phone. But this time, they did it through the sub-brand, POCO, with the unveiling of the POCO X3 Pro. The device has the same design as the vanilla version but features different internals. It runs Android 11 on top of MIUI 12 outside-of-the-box, while the X3 NFC has only started receiving Android 11.
The POCO X3 Pro features a 6.67-inch IPS LCD panel. It refreshes at 120HZ and supports a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The device is IP53 rating, meaning it is resistant to splash and dust while also sitting under the protection of a Corning Gorilla Glass 6. Of course, it runs Snapdragon 860 under the hood, which is paired with up to 8GB RAM and Adreno 640 GPU.
It features a Quad-camera arrangement of primary 48MP sensor, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth, and 2MP macro sensor. The front camera has a 20MP sensor with support for face unlock. As for power, a 5160mAh battery with a 33W fast charge takes care of things. See this full specs here.
Xiaomi Pad 5
Xiaomi is back in the Tablet market with its latest release: Mi Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro. The former features Snapdragon 860, making it eligible to be on the list. It sports an IPS LCD panel with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Atmos, and HDR 10. The 11-inch panel features 1B colors and has a 1600 x 2560px resolution. There’s a wide color gamut and true tone support.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 runs MIUI 12.5 on top of Android 11. Of course, it’s the Snapdragon 860 SoC under the helm, which is aided by 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Meanwhile, there’s no cellular connectivity, and hence, you have to use Wi-fi for internet connectivity.
Around the back panel, there’s a single 13MP sensor. It features HDR, is wide-angle, and supports shooting videos at 4K@30fps. The front camera gets a single 8MP sensor with 1080p@30fps video shooting. Interestingly, there are a total of four speakers on the Tablet, while power is drawn from a beefy 8720mAh. It charges at 33W.The device comes in Black, White, and Green colors. It starts at about $300 and should arrive at the global market later.
