Google released the fifth, and last Android 12 beta build a couple of days ago. It means the stable Android 12 is only a few weeks from an official release. The company promised to release the update in the coming weeks but didn’t give a tentative release date. However, going by reports, the stable Android 12 release date might have been revealed.
Of course, the rollout will start with Google Pixel phones before making it to other OEMs phones. And ahead of the stable release, Google document listing, which details when the company stops approvals of the software build has surfaced. The idea is to restrict OEMs from shipping their phones running older versions of Android. Hence, the company must give a stamp of approval for every software release. The document shared by XDA developers has when this will happen and also says when Android 12 source code will be released.
Going by the report, Google will release the source code of Android 12 on October 4. As usual, it will be published on Android Open Source Project, and going by the history of Android OS releases, the stable Android 12 release might happen on the same day.
To put that in context, the Android 9 Pie source code arrived on August 6, 2018, the exact day Google released the stable version. The same thing happened with stable Android 10, which arrived in September of 2019, which was followed by the source code release. Last year, Google released the Android 11 source code on September 8. Few minutes after the release, the stable Android 11 was released, and we expect the same approach with the stable Android 12 release.
Of course, that could still change. However, we expect Google to stick with the release pattern since it has upheld it till now. Nevertheless, we keep an eye on and will update this post if there are any changes.
