Recently, it has been alleged that Xiaomi is testing Android 11 internally for the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro. That will see the Redmi Note 8T receive the update as well, but it remains to be seen if the update will ever arrive given how the company has treated the MIUI 12 rollout for these phones, especially the Redmi Note 8.
The global Redmi Note 8 users, particularly those running the V11.0.11.0, haven’t been lucky since the rollout started for the device. It has been from one bug to another, which we thought has been fixed when a new MIUI 11, surprisingly started seeding. Meanwhile, it seems the public rollout of that particular build has commenced as more users get the update.
But before the MIUI 11 update, Xiaomi already released a new stable MIUI 12 update for the global Redmi Note 8 users, which according to a Moderator in the Mi community forum, is still in the beta phase. According to the Moderator, when replying to a users query said;
MIUI 12 is already available for limited users of your device (Redmi Note 8), you will get when it rolls to more users, and this will happen if devs determine is ok to released based on the user’s feedback.
Hence, the stable MIUI 12 update for the global Redmi Note 8 is still in the beta phase, and that’s why you haven’t received the update.
It also means that you can’t successfully flash the recovery ROM either as developers haven’t unlocked it yet on the server. When you try to flash the ROM, it will return an error message, except you have got TWRP Recovery installed. Otherwise, we would advise you wait for the public rollout to commence, which will see all eligible Redmi Note 8 users receive the update, finally.
That said, we will be keeping tabs with the development and will update this space once we get new information as regards the stable MIUI 12 update for the Global Redmi Note 8 users.
