While most smartphone users are enjoying different OS updates from various brands, Steam OS has joined the rollout party by letting stable users enjoy the Stable SteamOS 3.2 update which was previously supported for users on the beta channel.
The Stable SteamOS 3.2 update has already been made official and users can access it via Steam Deck from now on. The package brought in a few improvements and general gaming enhancements. Let’s take a look at what the users get to enjoy from the rollout.
What’s new about the Stable SteamOS 3.2 update
One notable feat of the Stable SteamOS 3.2 update has to be the tweaks to the fps as well as refresh rate. The default refresh rate on the Steam Deck is usually a 60 Hz refresh rate and previously, at this refresh rate, the frames could be limited to just 10, 15, 30 and 60fps. The new update enables users to set the refresh rates to 40Hz and allows them to switch frame rates from 10 to 20 and then 40fps.
The advantage of this tweak has to be enhanced gaming as users can set the fps to any option according to the game to help battery life. Adding to these, the settings used for the game can be saved to the particular game plus users get to choose more internal screen resolutions for each game.
Another notable mention of the stable SteamOS 3.2 update is the adjustments to the console’s fan behaviour, different from the usual reliance on BIOS. Valve mentioned that the overall changes are a major improvement and has stated that it’s looking forward to more changes as it has also added console audio for better sound quality.
In conclusion, Valve made a move to introduce a new Remote Play Together which allows other users to join in on a game remotely while sitting next to you. While this isn’t available on the SteamOS, it is available on the Steam Client.
