Early this year, Xiaomi was added to the list of Chinese military communist companies by the US. They asked that all US companies divest their holdings, but Xiaomi has since been removed from the list. Shortly after that, Xiaomi announced it’ll disable the Google Play Services framework on its Chinese phones. The company removed Google Services from its GetApp and made it impossible to side-load Google apps and other services. And while the move was linked to the company having ties with the Chinese military, Xiaomi released a statement saying it was due to compliances.
Of course, Google is blocked in China, and that’s why ROM developed for use in that region doesn’t come pre-installed with the Google Play Services framework. However, Xiaomi makes it easy to side-load it, but that’s become impossible after disabling the Google Play Services framework on Chinese ROMs. According to them, if the demand increases in the future, they’ll bring back the support, which is currently happening. First, it was the Redmi K40 Gaming Edition, and now, the latest Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G update adds support for the Google Play Services Framework.
The update is seeding for eligible users with a version number – MIUI 12.5.5.0 RKPCNXM. It brings, as mentioned earlier, “support for Google Play Services Framework” and “Optimized Audio Experience. After installing the latest build on your Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G running Chinese ROM, navigate to Settings >> Account & Sync >> Basic Google Services >> Enable the toggle. After that, you should go back to the Home screen, where you’ll see the Google Play store. Register with your Google ID and start downloading and installing apps.
