Talk about a turn in the competition. Meta seems to be developing a new app and according to sources, it’s going to be the new Twitter Alternative app. The Meta boss wants to add to the treble – Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp.
A new Twitter Alternative app?
A leaked screenshot has surfaced, providing a glimpse of Meta’s potential Twitter rival, known internally as “Project 92” and speculated to be called “Threads” upon its official release. The user interface (UI) of the app bears resemblance to Instagram but without photos. It has been revealed that the app will utilize the ActivityPub social networking protocol, enabling users to transfer their existing Instagram accounts and followers to the new platform.
Chris Cox, Meta’s Chief Product Officer (CPO), has stated that the app will serve as their response to Twitter. Profiles on the new platform will be automatically populated with information from users’ Instagram accounts. Meta has reportedly received numerous requests from public figures and artists for a Twitter alternative that offers open control and information security.
Some celebrities, including DJ Slime, have already expressed their intention to use the new Twitter alternative app, and Meta is in discussions with potential additions such as Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama. Development of the social media initiative began in January, and Meta aims to make it available as soon as possible. It remains to be seen how the new Twitter alternative will compare to Elon Musk’s Twitter and how it will be received by the tech community. Expectations for Meta’s offering are high.
