Bluesky, which was software from the former Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey, was made available via a beta channel for iOS users back in February. The Twitter Alternative is now making its way to Android via Play Store – and it’s still a beta channel that requires an invite code for you to access.
About Bluesky, Twitter Alternative
Bluesky was a software that came into reality sometime in 2019 from the mind of Jack Dorsey. Dorsey previously stated his intention to create a decentralized social media network that is community-driven and open-source. A team of developers and engineers is presently leading the project and working to construct the underlying infrastructure that will enable the platform.
Since it is a close beta, you will need an invite code for you to sign up even when you have downloaded the app from the Play Store. Sources mentioned that reports from the users are quite encouraging. Although direct messaging is still unavailable, the environment is friendly which might be due to the small community of users.
Bluesky’s goal is to establish a decentralized social media network that allows users to engage with one another without the involvement of a central authority. This means the platform will be less vulnerable to censorship, and users will have more control over their data and how it is shared. This has become an especially pressing issue since Elon Musk acquired Twitter last year, which has fundamentally altered the platform’s operation.
Well, Bluesky is off to a good start, but we can’t say for now the exact potential of the software and whether or not it’s going to compete with Twitter in the long run – I guess, time will tell.
