One thing with new hardware releases is that we get new software features to debut with them. It is then rolled out to older units, which is exactly the case with the Offline Google Map support. The latest addition debuted a few days ago with the Pixel Watch 3, and we understand it’s now available for older watches.
Pixel and other Smart Watches run Wear OS, and since the offline Google Maps support is rolling out for all watches running the OS, we expect not just the Pixel Watch 2 to receive it. While we wait for the obvious expansion to other Watches, you can get the feature with Google Maps beta version 11.140.0701.W.
The update is rolling out to the Pixel Watch 2. You will see a new Offline Maps page above the Settings option after installing the update. Your SmartWatch automatically downloads the map of your area while syncing other offline areas from all your connected smartphones.
Of course, it syncs offline Maps when connected to Wi-Fi and is being charged. It displays a slashed cloud icon next to the time on the map to show you are offline.
The Offline Google Map support is a great addition since it lets users navigate with their Watch, even without internet connectivity. However, it would be impossible to show traffic conditions while you are navigating offline.
