Last week at MWC (Mobile World Congress), Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi smartwatch, Watch S1 Pro. The S1 Pro, like other smartwatches from eastern manufacturers, runs on proprietary Software—in this case, MIUI Watch OS.
While smartwatches that run proprietary software can have several advantages, such as extremely long battery life, having Wear OS on your watch is in a completely different league. That paves the path for much greater interoperability and personalization, which is undoubtedly what a certain demographic seeks in a modern wristwatch.
Xiaomi smartwatch should achieve optimal function with the Wear OS
Some of the greatest smartwatches we’ve seen use Wear OS, such as the Galaxy Watch 5 and the Fossil Gen 6. Granted, the battery life is nowhere near the week or so that Huawei and Xiaomi watches can guarantee, but there is no comparison in terms of functionality.
MIUI Watch OS is already Android-based. It’s only when a firm decides to drop the Wear OS name and go its way that it effectively loses its chance at Wear OS exclusive features. Not to mention the plethora of custom watch faces available via third-party apps – against all odds, the Wear OS will give the Xiaomi smartwatch a new look.
An unidentified source initiated the entire story, which 9to5Google reported on. The magazine seems confident in the leak, labeling it “verified” despite the lack of specifics. The only information known is that this new Xiaomi wristwatch will run on Wear OS 3 and will be ready before the end of the year.
Who can say? This might be the missing link that propels Xiaomi smartwatches to success. We’re excited to see what the Mi business can accomplish with Wear OS if this rumor is accurate, and we expect to see it on our next list of the best smartwatches you can go for.
