WhatsApp keeps bringing new features to enhance its users experience. The latest addition brings support for email authentication. It doesn’t replace the phone number, but as an alternative in a situation there is no cellular network.
WhatsApp, since its creation requires only your phone number to create and authenticate your account when login in from a new device. That would soon change as a new report hints at support for email authentication. It means WhatsApp will soon start associating accounts with an email.
The new move to link an Email to a WhatsApp account won’t replace SMS verification. It’s only coming as an alternative, and a mobile number is still required when opening a new WhatsApp account. Perhaps, when the new feature becomes available for everyone, WhatsApp will prompt users to link their email addresses.
Currently, WhatsApp Email Authentication support is limited to beta testers. If you’re running the latest beta version 23.24.70 on your iPhone, you can enable email authentication from the Settings tab. Choose Account, and select your email address to complete the setup.
Will Email Authentication come to Android?
Currently, the option to link an email to your WhatsApp account is available for beta users. According to reports, beta testers on iOS are the ones that have the feature, but we expect it to arrive for Android users. However, we don’t know when WhatsApp plans to release the option to everyone, but we believe it will be soon. You can follow our social media platforms to know when the function becomes available.
