WhatsApp has been making some changes and new additions, but it seems some iPhone users won’t enjoy these features when they start rolling out. The company has plans to drop support for old iPhones from October this year.
Ahead of 24 October 2022, WhatsApp has started sending out a notice to iPhone users running iOS 10 and iOS 11. According to the notice, WhatsApp will stop working on the devices running the iOS versions on the aforementioned date. To continue using WhatsApp after the said date, users have to upgrade to at least iOS 12.
With the development, users of the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5 will have to upgrade to a new phone to continue using WhatsApp. The duo is currently running iOS 10 and has elapsed its support period. Interestingly, the iPhone 5S will still support WhatsApp since it’s on iOS 12 — now the minimum requirement.
Meanwhile, it’s unclear the reason behind these changes, but we have seen them drop support for older Android phones in the past. The move is perhaps due to compatibility issues, given the new features they’ve up in their sleeves. Also, security is another reason for taking such a step. Hopefully, the company will clarify in the coming weeks, but if you own the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5, you should consider upgrading to a newer iPhone if you want to keep using WhatsApp.
