Google started the new trend of boosting support for up to seven years. Samsung has since matched the support period while extending mid-range phones to six years of security support. Unfortunately, Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro will only receive five years of security support and four Android OS updates.
Recently, smartphone makers are using the years they will support their phones for marketing. The truth is the phone’s build quality has improved, and you can go years without changing your device. It’s understandable why consumers are going for units with higher support periods, and unfortunately, the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro do not fall into this category.
According to the product software support information, the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro will stop getting updates in 2029. Precisely, the duo will stop receiving security patch updates on 2029, 09, 26, exactly five years. While it didn’t say the number of Android OS updates, the current policy means the device is eligible for four, meaning it will get up to Android 18.
The Xiaomi 14T series debuted with Android 14 on top of HyperOS 1.0. Both phones will be running HyperOS 6 and Android 18 when their support period elapses. They will be moved to EOL and will stop receiving any form of support.
It’s disappointing to see Xiaomi stick to its five years of security support when Samsung mid-range phones will get six. Also, Motorola recently promised five years of OS and security support for its phones. We expected Xiaomi to improve on the current support period, but that’s not happening. Hopefully, the company will revisit that in the future.
Nevertheless, the Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro are great phones with premium specs. Considering their price tags, five years of support is not bad, and we recommend the phones. You can follow our tracker page for all the updates that will be released to the phones during their lifetime.
