Xiaomi has started rolling out the stable Android 16-based HyperOS 2 to eligible users globally. The company has released the much-anticipated upgrade to its latest flagship phones, but it’s a limited release. We believe only stable beta testers are getting the upgrade to preview it before a wider availability.

Xiaomi was among the companies to start testing the Android 16 build after the official announcement at the I/O event. The company has since made progress, and the build seems stable enough for stable users. However, only those who are part of the Mi Pilot program will the upgrade, but we believe an expansion will start in the coming weeks.
Details of Xiaomi 15 Android 16-based HyperOS 2 update
Xiaomi has commenced the global Android 16-based HyperOS update to the Xiaomi 15. The build has a software version OS2.0.217.0.WOCMIXM. Unfortunately, the changelog does not mention any new features. That’s because the upgrade is for advanced users and Mi Pilot members. Although it’s a stable build, only those who signed up for the beta program are receiving the update. Pending their feedback, Xiaomi is likely to start expanding its availability.
Thus far, only two regions are getting the upgrade – Global and European users. These two countries are where Xiaomi has been organizing a beta test, and it makes sense that the rollout starts in that region.
Xiaomi Global stable Android 16-based HyperOS 2 update features
While we expect Xiaomi to officially introduce Android 16 with HyperOS 3, and probably then we will get a complete feature, some of the features are already known. Google introduced Android 16 a couple of months ago and rolled it out to Pixel phones last month. Hence, we know of the features it brings, and we expect Xiaomi phones to share it.
Additionally, there have been security enhancements while animation has improved. We understand the upgrade has introduced a new Status Bar and introduced a blur effect.
Installation Guideline
Xiaomi is warning users of the potential risk of installing the stable Android 16 update. Because it’s a new OS, some system apps are yet to adapt. It might cause overheating and other performance issues. These problems might take time to adjust. Hence, if you cannot live with these few glitches, we recommend ignoring the upgrade for now.
