Xiaomi has confirmed the imminent release of a new Android skin – HyperOS. It will replace MIUI on Xiaomi smartphones, as well as, smart home devices and their upcoming EV. As expected Xiaomi HyperOS Features have started surfacing ahead of the official unveiling.
Xiaomi HyperOS will arrive with the Xiaomi 14 series, making it the first phone to run the new OS. Of course, other devices with active software support will receive the update. And while we wait for the official release, supposed features of the OS have started surfacing. So far, HyperOS will keep the MIUI design language while making minor changes.
Before Xiaomi announced HyperOS, the company had been testing some features for the MIUI 15. And it seems these features will now arrive on Xiaomi phones as part of the new Android skin changes. Reports show a new File manager app, a new control center, and changes in the security app.
Xiaomi HyperOS Features
A new control center
HyperOS will come with a new control center. It’s basically the same as the current version, only that the some quick settings have been moved. There are big music controls, which have taken up the position of the mobile data quick settings. The latter is now above the volume and screen brightness controls.
With the new HyperOS control center, Xiaomi is reverting to MIUI 12 controls. You will reveal more quick settings scrolling down, unlike swiping left or right in MIUI 14. Personally, that doesn’t seem like a nice move, as it leaves the control center crowded. However, most of these changes don’t make it to the users, but we will learn more about that in the coming weeks.
File Manager app and Security app redesign
The File Manager app has seen some revamp. Instead of being iOS-inspired, the new design leans towards stock Android 14. The security app sees similar changes with security, permission, application list, and battery sections that have been revamped.
So far, there’s no difference between MIUI and the upcoming HyperOS. It’s basically a name change with the features we have seen. However, it seems the company is making big changes in animation, and we hope to learn how that has improved after the official release.
