Redmi, Xiaomi’s faction, has just shown off something weird that is surely pushing the frontiers of battery charging technology. If you’ve ever felt like your phone charges too slowly, you might want to keep a watch on what Redmi has in store, since the firm has unveiled a 300W super fast charging that claims to fully charge a phone battery in 5 minutes. In this scenario, fast charging may be an understatement!
300W super fast charging: charging technology innovation
In a video demonstration(via the video below), the business shows a Redmi Note 12 Discovery phone with a special 4,100mAh battery that charges in less than 5 minutes. While charging speeds never reach 300W, the theoretical maximum of Redmi’s groundbreaking technology, the smartphone is charged at more than 260W for a while before succumbing to “slower” trickle levels of sub-200W.
The charging adapter responsible for the astounding achievement(300W super fast charging) is a double-GaN one, which allows it to remain tiny despite its incredible charging capabilities. This one is said to have more than 50 safety features, but we can’t help but worry about how such a quick charging technology will damage a smartphone battery in the long term. Rapid charging is often coupled with a lot of heat, and heat is arguably the most dangerous enemy of battery chemistry.
While amazing, the 300W super fast charging technology may remain a proof-of-concept for the time being, since Redmi is uncertain when phones with such quick charging will enter the market. We’re hoping to see those sooner rather than later! You can follow us on Telegram to know when mass production of the tech starts or the first phone that will debut with it.
