It’s been a couple of weeks since Google released the Android 12 source code to AOSP to allow developers and smartphone makers to get to work. Since then, Xiaomi has been working to push the stable version to its eligible phones. However, it’s still a few weeks before we see updates start rolling out as more testing is needed. Perhaps, the company is testing the compatibility with its MIUI Android skin. And going by a recent report, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro Android 12 update is based on MIUI is available in China.
Xiaomi 12 series is expected to run Android 12 based on MIUI 13 outside the box. We have seen reports supporting that claim, but that’s unlikely as none of those builds have reached a stable version. Hence, we anticipate a closed beta release after the official launch – same as the Xiaomi Mi 10 and M10 Pro Android 12 beta update.
Meanwhile, it’s the first Android 12-based MIUI 12.5 update for the duo, and it’s arriving with the latest closed beta build (MIUI 12.5 V21.11.30). The update is seeding with multiple optimizations and bug fixes with all the features of Android 12 inside. However, due to MIUI, you might not notice all the changes on the current Android OS version after upgrading.
Also, it’s important to note that the update is the first Android 12-based MIUI build, and hence, we recommend a backup of your data before installation. The reason is because of compatibility issues that might require performing a factory reset. That said, you should go ahead and upgrade your device to Android 12 when prompted.
Unfortunately, we don’t know when the stable channel will receive the update, but we hope it’s soon. And if you’re running the Chinese ROM on your Mi 10 or Mi 10 Pro, you can download the Android 12 build below.
