Xiaomi might be working on multiple versions of the recently released MIUI 13 build. We understand a point upgrade (MIUI 13.5) is under development, and it might be accompanied by MIUI Lite and MIUI Go, hinting at an MIUI 13 Lite version.
Over the past few years, Xiaomi has tried to optimize MIUI, resulting in some features being disabled on mid-range and entry-level devices. The company limited animation and hid second space and split-screen options in its affordable offering. They also removed the blur effect on the control center, possibily to improve performance.
Perhaps, with the supposed MIUI 13 Lite, the Chinese company will release a toned-down version of MIUI for these phones. Hopefully, they’ll re-enable some of these features presently missing on MIUI for its affordable devices. Also, it might enable the company to upgrade all their eligible phones without leaving some because of compatibility issues, which was the reason it skipped MIUI 12 for Redmi 7.
Details of Xiaomi MIUI 13 Lite
The supposed MIUI 13 Lite was discovered in MIUI code by Kacper Skrzypek. The code shows two variants of MIUI – MIUI Lite and MIUI Go, hinting at a possible MIUI 13 Lite.
So far, Xiaomi hasn’t released an official statement regarding this supposed lighter weight MIUI 13 version. However, we expect it to have a simple interface and would leave out animation and features that require more resources. That would improve performance, considering that most affordable Xiaomi phones come with 4GB of RAM.
It’s unclear when Xiaomi plans to release the MIUI 13 Lite, if at all, but we expect more information to surface in the coming days. However, it would be a lighter version of MIUI 13 for entry-level phones to improve their performance and give them more support period.
