Xiaomi introduced its first-ever Flip phone alongside the 14T series. The Chinese company didn’t mention how long it will support these phones on stage but has now confirmed their support periods. Unfortunately, it doesn’t meet what we see as the industry standard.
Google and Samsung remain at the forefront, but we expect Xiaomi to be catching up in terms of software support. The duo currently support their flagship phones for seven years. We expected Xiaomi to make some changes with the release of the Mix Flip, but that didn’t happen. It has just been confirmed that the Xiaomi Mix Flip support period is five years.
Xiaomi announced four years of Android OS updates and five years of security support months ago. That hasn’t changed, and it’s being carried over to the Mix Flip. According to the Product Software Support Information page, the device will stop getting security updates in 2029. Precisely, it will stop receiving Android OS updates and security patches on 2029 -07 -18.
You might be confused as to why the support period will end almost two months before the Xiaomi 14T series, given that both phones were announced on the same day. The Mix Flip was first released on July 19 in China. Xiaomi is using the Chinese launch date to calculate the support period, which is exactly five years.
Since Xiaomi Mix Flip debuted with Android 14 on top of HyperOS 1, we expect the device to receive Android 18. Depending on what naming Xiaomi chooses for HyperOS, the phone will likely get HyperOS 6. You can follow our tracker page for all the updates that’ll be released to the Flip during its lifetime.
