A lot of questions have been asked sin Xiaomi announced it will be committing to three Android OS upgrade and four years of security support for it upcoming Xiaomi 11T series. For now, the company isn’t promising the same for other phones, but they’re looking to see if that’ll work out. And while official confirmation is yet to come, it has been asked how the three Android upgrades will be counted. Obviously, it will start from the version that debut with the phone in question.
Take the Xiaomi 11T as an example. The device will run Android 11 on top of MIUI 12.5 outside of the box. It means the device will receive Android 12, 13, and 14. That’s to say, the counting starts from the pre-installed Android version and not the current Android version when the device was released. Based on that, some Xiaomi phones will not get Android 12 update. All phones that debuted with Android 9 will miss out on the update, while mid-rangers that run Android 10 outside of the box might miss out as well.
List of Xiaomi phones that will not get Android 12 update
- Xiaomi Mi 9 Series – Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi 9 Lite

The list of Xiaomi phones that will not get Android 12 is perhaps more than this. However, we have listed the popular phones that will miss out on the next Android OS upgrade. Luckily, some of them will get the MIUI 13 update, which will introduce features baked into Android 12. And if the reports are true, Google will introduce the new iteration of Android OS on October 19, along with Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.
