For months now, Xiaomi phones have been receiving a stable Android 12-based MIUI 13 update except the Xiaomi Pad 5 series devices that received the update based on Android 11. They were the first few eligible units to receive the upgrade, but surprisingly it san the Android 12 upgrade. We were hoping the upgrade would arrive soon before Xiaomi announced suspension of the internal beta release for the units due to a major Android upgrade.
Xiaomi suspended the internal beta release to the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5, Mi Pad 5 Pro, and Mi Pad 5 Pro Tablets on February 7, 2021. The reason was due to a major Android upgrade, which is Android 12. Although the company didn’t announce when to restart the internal beta release, we were hoping the next rollout brings Android 12, at least, to the closed beta testers. That seems not to be the case, as a new report suggests that Xiaomi has postponed Android 12 for Xiaomi Pad 5, Pad 5 Pro, and Pad 5 Pro 5G.
According to the latest MIUI 13 V22.3.4 closed beta update release Note, the planned Android 12 for Xiaomi Pad 5, Pad 5 Pro, and Pad 5 Pro 5G encountered a major problem. It has to do with code refactoring on Android 12 for the Tablet, and hence the upgrade has been suspended. The company will probably need time to address the issue and has restored the Tablets to Android 11.
Unfortunately, they didn’t say when to expect Android 12 for Xiaomi Pad 5 series, but hopefully, it will be soon. Nevertheless, you should check for the latest version of the MIUI build if you are among the closed beta testers. We will be monitoring the situation to update this space once there’s a new development regarding the upgrade.
