The Xiaomi sub-brand, Redmi, keeps expanding the phones in its stable. Their latest addition, Redmi 9 Prime, sits in-between the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi 9A. Leaks have also suggested the coming of a Poco phone, which is going to be a rebadged Redmi 9 series phone. But while that might be true, the company has only introduced the Redmi 9 Prime.
The device sports a 6.57-inch FHD+ teardrop display that houses the 8MP front selfie snapper. It’s protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3, coupled with a screen protector that comes pre-installed for improved durability. Under the hood is a MediaTek G80 Octa-Core processor, paired with 4GB LDDPR4 RAM and up to 128GB eMMC 5.1 internal storage.
Around the back is a Quad-camera arrangement of a primary 13MP snapper. It’s coupled with an additional three modules: 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 5MP Macro lens, and 2MP depth sensor for a closeup shot. The phone will draw power from a huge 5000mAh battery. It supports 18W fast charging, and luckily, it comes with the package.
Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime price and availability
The base variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime, with 4GB and 64GB, starts at INR 9,999 ( ~$133) while the 6GB/128GB model will set you back INR 11,999 (~11,999). The device comes in four amazing colors: Space Blue, Mint Green, Matte Black, and Sunrise Flare.
The first sale has been scheduled for August 6 at 10 am local time, and will be exclusive on Amazon. On August 17, you will be able to purchase the device from both offline and online stores, including Mi.com, Amazon India, Mi Home stores, and Mi Studios.
Given that Redmi 9, which is basically renamed Redmi 9 Prime for India, is available in Europe at €147 shows the Indian fans are getting a better deal. Of course, that’s because the device was manufactured there in India, and hence the MSRP didn’t include up to 20% VAT, unlike Xiaomi phones sold in Europe.
