Xiaomi MIUI remains one of the best Android skins around. It runs on Redmi and POCO phones and currently has over 564M monthly users. The company will look to increase that number, and perhaps, the reason it’s considering replacing MIUI with the supposed MiOS.

MiOS

We have been seeing news about the possible release of MIUI 15 in the coming weeks. The next iteration of MIUI is expected to debut alongside the Xiaomi 14, with the device probably running the UI outside of the box. However, we might see a different UI when that finally starts shipping, with Digital Chat Station reporting that Xiaomi is currently working on replacing MIUI with MiOS.

The reports suggest MIUI will be replaced with MiOS, but it’s unclear whether the former is another Android skin or a new mobile operating system. Like Huawei, we have seen reports claiming that Xiaomi might debut its own Android Open Source Project (AOSP) based operating system. If that happens, we expect it to run in the company’s smartphones, Tablets, and Wearables.

Of course, we know that Xiaomi is working on an electric vehicle. It’s possible the move to replace MIUI with MiOS is to seamlessly connect the entire ecosystem. We hope to get a clear picture of the supposed MiOS, whether it’ll replace MIUI or be exclusive to the Xiaomi EV. The latter seems more likely as Xiaomi already showcased MIUI 15 during the Redmi K60 Ultra presentation. Also, there are multiple phones currently testing Android 14-based MIUI 15 build, which is expected to start seeding for the public later this year.

Nevertheless, the supposed MiOS might be a change of name, and not necessarily replacing MIUI design language, and if that’s the case, we might see the former debut soon as reported. We expect to see an improved animation, which according to Digital Chat Station, is the only place MIUI is lacking behind when compared with other Android skin. Xiaomi is expected to refine it’s Android skin, and hopefully, a significant change will be made with the new supposed Android skin.

Interestingly, there are already pictures of a supposed MiOS developer beta circulating on Chinese social media. Also, Xiaomi has trademarked MiOS and mios.cn domain in China, meaning that we will eventually see MiOS at some point.
