China is very much ahead of other countries in the adoption of 5G networks. Although other countries are yet to fully adopt the fifth generation of internet connectivity, 5G smartphones are already popular in most of these countries. That can be traced to the intense promotion from smartphone companies and coupled with the fact that the SD 865, which powers most premium phones of the year, supports 5G.
Huawei’s own Kirin processor, Samsung Exynos SoC, and Mediatek, all have their 5G enabled SoC in the market currently. That doesn’t only make 5G smartphones affordable and available but has also intensified the competition. JD.com recently released a list of 5G smartphone sales for April.
As expected, Huawei P40 Pro, with sales volume of 150, 561 tops the list, while Xiaomi Mi 10 put up a good fight, but comes second with 150,214 units sold. The Mi 10 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro with the sales volume of 70,991 and 63,621 respectively are the only Xiaomi 5G smartphone in the Top 10.
It’s no surprise how the Mi 10 has performed, albeit the competition. The device is the first Xiaomi flagship phone of the year and also the first device to run the Qualcomm premium SoC. Unlike the predecessor, the specs are top-notch, which is the reason for the price.
According to consumers, the Mi 10 series is the first true-flagship phone from Xiaomi. The phone is equipped with LDDPR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage, a quad-camera system of a primary 108MP, and an AMOLED screen that refreshes at 90Hz.
Nevertheless, Mi 10 is affordable when compared with premium 5G smartphones in the market. With the asking price of $564 (CNY 3,999) compared to the $845 ( CNY 5989) for the Huawei P40 Pro and other Premium 5G smartphones on the list, the Mi 10 is still one of the most affordable premium phones.
The Huawei P40 Pro, no doubt, is a better phone. It sold 150,661 units in China alone in April, 347 units more than the Xiaomi Mi 10, even with the higher price. It’s also the camera King on DXOmark leaderboard, with a median score of 128. The device, apart from the camera, has other advantages, such as performance and the screen features. But with the US still upholding its ban on the company, Huawei 5G smartphone global sales will surely experience a big hit.
