Back in December last year, Xiaomi, during the unveiling of the Redmi K30 announced, it has started the development of its next MIUI interface. At that time, they didn’t reveal features of MIUI 12, but reports in the past few weeks have given us clues on what to expect.

To facilitate the release of the MIUI 12, the company has stopped the development of MIUI 11. It seems the user interface will be arriving early this year. Xiaomi, in the previous years, started Closed Beta testing for MIUI in May, and in August/September, the first wave of Xiaomi phones will start getting the update.

As we wait on the company to officially announce some features of MIUI 12, a developer on the company’s Chinese forum has published a post hinting at the features of the next Xiaomi User Interface.

Some features of MIUI 12

Features of MIUI 12

New Navigation bars and gestures

Xiaomi has made some changes to the MIUI global system animation. It shows the company acknowledges they are behind other manufacturers and will seek to improve in this area. The old version of the animation is unstable, inconsistent, and uncomfortable, but that’s likely to change soon.

Perfect Dark mode

The system-wide dark mode is one of the core features of Android 10. It was also introduced with MIUI 11 but is still missing on few Xiaomi phones. Early reports claim the MIUI 12 will bring a dark mode to all Xiaomi phones, which will support all system applications. This report confirms that while hinting at better support and perfect Dark mode experience.

Notification box mechanism

Xiaomi has to improve in this area, and it’s like we’re going to see a change this time. The notification system on MIUI 11 doesn’t offer the best experience, especially when it faces too many tasks. According to our source, the company has now agreed on the notification box mechanism as a way to give users quick notification.

Advertising service optimization

Xiaomi has been criticized for keeping ads on its UI. The company tried to optimize with MIUI 11, but it seems not much was done, and will look to optimize ad placement once again on MIUI 12. They will integrate this advertising service properly in the system this time, rather than popping up from nowhere on the UI.

Enhanced privacy Management

Not just Xiaomi, but Android phones, in general, are way behind iOS in this area. However, Xiaomi seeks to improve on that and has launched a new privacy Management mechanism. It’s one of the features of MIUI 12, which will tighten the Management of software and will give users more autonomy in managing their data.

New Multitasking animation

The arrival of MIUI 11 made some nice alterations in the multitasking style. However, it seems a new menu will come with MIUI 12, which is also expected to arrive with much better design and animation.

Revamped camera UI

Revamping the camera UI is said to be one of the features of MIUI 12. The company will improve in this area to meet up with the continuous enhancement of lens modules. More operations have been added to the camera, and therefore, optimizing the camera UI is necessary.

More comprehensive System Level services

Recently, most Xiaomi phones have at least 4GB RAM, which means more function has or can be integrated into the system. Over the years, we have seen a lack of priority for some system apps. As part of the features of MIUI 12, the company will improve in this area, especially the health, sports, calculator, and other system apps.

Note: the features of MIUI 12 outlined above haven’t received official confirmation from the company. It’s likely, some of them will miss out and new features added in the final preview.
