Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 will succeed the Snapdragon 865. It will be manufactured by TSMC and will be the first Snapdragon chips to be made on the 5nm process. With that, the processor will be faster and power-efficient, and coupled with some of the specs that have surfaced online, the improvement over the SD 865 could reach 40%.
Meanwhile, there’s a feature of the Snapdragon 875 that was recently revealed. The SoC will support up to 100W charging according to a recent report coming out of China.
According to Digital Chat Station, ”The main selling point of the Q1 gaming mobile phone case next year is s875+100w±. At present, three of the four domestic game phone manufacturers are testing and promoting the commercialization of 100-watt fast charging. The large battery + super-fast charging is too c..”
From the report, next year’s gaming smart
phones will feature large battery capacity and fast charging support up to 100W. That makes sense since the battery will also increase, and that will enable consumers to stay longer on a single charge. Also, it will match up the power-demanding features of premium smartphones, high refresh rate, 5G, big screen, among others.
Xiaomi 100W fast charging Solution
Xiaomi, with the Snapdragon 875 SoC, may finally debut their 100W Super Turbo fast charging solution demoed a few months ago. The Xiaomi 100W fast charging tops a 4000mAh to 100% in just 17 minutes.
However, the super Charge comes with some limitations. According to Xiaomi Vice president, Lu Weibing, fast charging results in degrading of the battery, safety concern as it regards to heating during charging, sustainability, and compatibility issues.
Nevertheless, if OEMs want to enhance users’ experience during gaming, then there’s a need to improve on the battery capacity, which will ensure extended gaming sessions. Hence, the charging speed should also improve from what we have seen already. We expect the Xiaomi 100W fast charging solution to debut in Q1 of 2020 if the rumors are true.
