Last Friday, the global smartphone shipment for the Q2 of 2020 was released by Canalys. Huawei overtook Samsung, having shipped more phones than the South Korean tech company for the first time in many years. Xiaomi ranks fifth, below Apple, but above Oppo, which occupies the fifth position. Today, Canalys has released the European smartphone shipment for Q2 of 2020 with Samsung maintaining its position at the top spot.
European smartphone shipment for Q2 of 2202However, only Apple and Xiaomi record a Year-on-Year growth of 42% and 65%, respectively. It shows that Xiaomi is fast expanding its market in Europe, where it currently holds 17% of the market share.
Huawei holds a market share of 17% as well but sees its YOY growth dwindle by 17%, hence, was displaced by Xiaomi. According to IT Home, Huawei lost its place in the ranking, having intentionally reduced its European shipment by 17%.
Samsung maintains the top spot with a 30% market share but didn’t record any growth. Its Year-on-Year growth is down by 31%, with HMD Global, another company that saw a decrease of 12%. Meanwhile, in Western Europe, the Xiaomi growth rate has currently exceeded 116%. In Spain, the company still occupies the top spot with a market share of 37%, which is a whopping 151% Year-on-Year growth.
From the data of European smartphone shipment for Q2 of 2020, Xiaomi seems to be expanding very fast. Apple, as well, had decent growth, unlike Huawei that has lost its place to Xiaomi. It’s possibly down to the fact that Huawei phones don’t support Google apps again, and as such, the company decides to reduce its shipment to Europe.

Samsung reigns supreme once again, even with a negative YOY growth. We expect to see some changes when the Q3 results are released, given that European countries are now opening their economy after the COVID-19 pandemic that plague the whole world.
