It seems Xiaomi has intentionally left two of its most popular phones on MIUI 11: Redmi Note 9S/9 Pro and Redmi Note 8. The former, which answers Redmi Note 9 Pro in some markets, debuted early this year and has seen attention moved from the latter to what is the latest Redmi Note series.
However, both phones have few things in common, most notably, they still run MIUI 11. One would expect the duo to be among the early adopters of the MIUI 12 build, but it seems Xiaomi is prioritizing other phones.
A few weeks ago, the Redmi Note 9 Pro received a stable update that bumped the security patch to July. And given that the MIUI 12 rollout is already on a rampage, we thought it would finally make its way to the Redmi Note 9S/9 Pro sometime this month.
Unfortunately, the MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 9S/Pro isn’t ready yet. The device is currently receiving a monthly patch update, which bumps the security level to August. It has a version number, MIUI 11.0.11.0 QJWMIXM, and weighs in at 244MB.
Of course, the update will be rolled out in batches, and if bug-free, will be released for the general public. However, you can still navigate to the System Updates and see if the update is there, or you can follow the link below this post and download it manually.
As per when MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 9S will start arriving, we don’t have any ETA. The reason could be the fact that the device isn’t sold in China and Xiaomi, doing what they do best, is focusing on phones sold in that country. But then, the device is eligible for the update and will surely start getting it in the coming weeks.
