The Global developer ROM project has been suspended for over one and a half years now. Currently, only the Chinese channel of MIUI can participate in beta tests, but we might see the global users start participating once again.
Going by the Mi Engineers Face to Face Q&A posted on the Mi community forum, a couple of days ago, we could understand that Xiaomi is already developing the next iteration of MIUI — MIUI 13. The report also hints at the return of the global developer ROM project.
Meanwhile, the project will only be made available to selected users on return, but that has always been the case. Unfortunately, there’s no time frame as to when Xiaomi will reinstate the project. We might see the global developer ROM project return with the unveiling of the MIUI 13.
Back in April, a few days after the official unveiling of the MIUI 12, the company organized a survey for its next Android skin. They sought the fans’ opinion on possible changes they would like to see, and going by the recent report, MIUI 13 will focus on improving the system animation.
With the introduction of MIUI 12, Xiaomi revamped the system animation, which lots of people have reported that it lags. And while subsequent updates try to fix these bugs, the MIUI 13 will focus on making them world-class.
There has also been a prototype of what could be the MIUI 13 power-off animation. It’s a two-ways slider button, which sits at the side of the screen. However, the new function may be currently under internal testing, and if that’s the case, we might see it on subsequent MIUI 12 updates.
