For a while, we thought the saga surrounding the MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8 was over when Xiaomi announced it had released the update for the public. Well, we thought wrong as there have been a series of reports from multiple users claiming that the update is yet to arrive via OTA. Even those that tried to flash the recovery ROM via the updater app couldn’t do so as it returned an error ” sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed.“
But it seems not all Redmi Note 8 units have the problem. According to reports on the Mi community forum, most devices on MIUI 11.0.10.0 PCOMIXM have successfully updated to MIUI 12, while those running v11.011.0 PCOMIXM are yet to start receiving the update via OTA. It’s even more frustrating the fact that you can’t flash the recovery ROM manually and considering how long it has taken Xiaomi to roll out MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8.
The problem at first, we thought, is because developers are yet to unlock the ROM on the server, which will allow users to flash the recovery ROM. It turns out that the OTA update and the recovery ROM have some issues, which moderators claim that developers are aware of and are working on a solution.
However, it’s been four days since the problem was reported, and still nothing yet. At least the MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 8 should be available via OTA for eligible users, especially those on v11.0.11.0.
That said, we hope that developers fix this bug as soon as possible, which will see all eligible users of the Redmi Note 8 starts getting the much-anticipated MIUI 12. And if you’re yet to receive the update, you can manually check on the updater app and see if anything is there. We don’t recommend downloading the recovery ROM as that might now work.
