The latest MIUI 12 ROM for the Redmi Note 8 won’t flash via system updates

New MIUI 12 update ready for Redmi Note 8 units on V11.0.11.0…full report below…

Xiaomi has made the stable MIUI 12 ROM for the Redmi Note 8 available for everyone. The update was made public after a successful beta preview, which means users of the popular Redmi Note 8 device can now flash the ROM via System Updates using the recovery method. However, it seems developers are yet to unlock the ROM on the server.

MIUI 12 ROM for the Redmi Note 8

When the MIUI 12 ROM for the Redmi Note 8 was first released, it was only those who previewed the ROM that received it via OTA. Anyone that tried to flash the ROM using the recovery method got an error message “sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed.” The explanation then was simple; the ROM was exclusive for beta testers, and as such, only those with authorized Mi accounts were allowed to flash.

Naturally, the error message disappears once the ROM is made available for the public, but it has persisted even after Xiaomi announced the public release. Developers probably are yet to unlock the ROM on Xiaomi’s server so that anyone can install it via system updates. This situation is carelessness and very unprofessional on the part of Xiaomi’s developers, and we hope they rectify it very soon.

That said, if you have downloaded the MIUI 12 ROM for the Redmi Note 8, you might encounter the said error trying to flash via system updates. We won’t recommend flashing the fastboot ROM as that requires unlocking the Bootloader and stuff. We advise that you exercise some patience for developers to unlock the ROM, which after then, you can easily flash using the recovery method.

We’ll be keeping tabs on the development and will update this space once the ROM can be flashed successfully. For now, you can check system updates and see if the update has arrived via OTA and if yes, proceed with the downloading and installation.
