Xiaomi might be the leading OEM when it comes to pushing out timely updates, but the company failed in some aspects with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G. The device launched in 2019 with MIUI 10 on top of Android 9. It was the first Xiaomi phone to support the 5G network, but after hitting the shelves, the company forgot about the phone entirely until recently. It might surprise you to know that the device still runs the pre-installed Android OS up till this time. And from the look of things, it doesn’t seem to change anytime soon, claims a Feedback Team member on the Mi Community forum, who affirms that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G Android 10 update is not on the card.
As a Xiaomi flagship phone and launched under the Mi-series, the Mi Mix 3 5G is eligible for two Android OS and three MIUI upgrades. Even the Mi Max 3, with its weaker processor, received two Android OS, but for some reason, Xiaomi has left the Mix 3 5G running Android Pie. Probably for that reason, users of this phone keep believing their device will receive the Android 10 update, but the new report didn’t agree to that. According to the feedback team member on the Mi Community forum, “Xiaomi hasn’t announced anything about Android 10 for Mi Mix 3 5G, but it is highly expected that it will not be provided since devs are already working on Android 11.”
That makes sense, especially if there’s no plan of upgrading the device to Android 10. But considering how Xiaomi pushed the device from MIUI 10 to MIUI 12, skipping MIUI 11, maybe they’ll decide to release Android 11 instead. Meanwhile, before the recent development, Xiaomi only promised to upgrade the device to MIUI 12, which they already did. The company didn’t promise an OS update, but given the recent turnaround with the device now receiving monthly security patches, we might see a new OS update, probably Android 11.
