The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 and Mi 8 Pro was once the company’s flagship phone of the year. And to be exact, the Mi Mix 3 launched in October 2018, while the Mi 8 Pro arrived in September of the same year. Outside-of-the-box, the Mi Mix 3 runs Android 9 (Pie) as the Mi 8 Pro came pre-installed with Android 8.1 (Oreo). The latter currently runs stable Android 10, meaning it has been treated to two Android OS on the road, and hence, won’t be receiving another OS update. The Mi Mix 3 has received only a single OS update since hitting the shelves. That makes it eligible for the next Android OS upgrade, which is Android 11.
However, it’s been weeks since a new update for Mi Mix 3 and Mi 8 Pro was released. At some point, we thought Xiaomi abandoned those phones, but we might be wrong. The duo is getting a new security patch update to improve system security and performance. Hopefully, the new update will fortify the Mi Mix 3 ahead of the supposed Android 11 upgrade.
Meanwhile, the new update for Mi Mix 3 and Mi 8 Pro is exclusive for the Chinese branch of MIUI. It has a version number – MIUI 12.0.4.0 QEECNXM and MIUI 12.0.5.0 QECCNXM – respectively. As usual, the update is on a limited rollout, and as such, will arrive for Mi Pilots for preview. After the preview phase, the OTA will start appearing on more phones, and hopefully, a Global rollout will follow.
