Xiaomi MI 8 Pro

Xiaomi has officially announced two new devices into the MI 8 family, MI 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite. The Xiaomi MI 8 Pro is built around a 6.21-inch super AMOLED display with a nearly bezel-less front panel, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Under the hood is Snapdragon 845 Octa-core processor, paired with either 6 or 8GB RAM and Adreno 640 GPU. It’s coupled with a 128GB internal memory, not expandable via Micro SD card.

The rear camera arrangement has an identical setup with iPhone XS and XS Max. It consists of a dual 12MP f/1.8 main shooter with a massive 1.4um lens that featured in Galaxy S9 and MI 8. The 12MP depth sensor has 2x optical zoom, Auto Focus, and a 1.0um lens. On the front notch is a massive 20MP f/2.0 sensor with a 0.9um lens, featuring HDR and can shoot videos at 1080p@30fps.

Xiaomi MI 8 Pro just like POCO F1, Oppo R17 Pro, and ZTE axon 9 sports dual biometric authentication. It features both Facial ID and fingerprint identification scanner. The battery is 3000mAh, charges through a USB-C cable while supporting fast battery charging (Qualcomm 4.0+). Out of the box, MI 8 Pro will run Android 8.1 Oreo onboard MIUI 10 user interface.

Display

Sitting in front of Xiaomi MI 8 Pro is a tall 6.21-inch super AMOLED capacitive touch display. It has 1080 x 2248px resolution onboard 403PPI for coherent and seamless display. The screen supports HDR10 complaint, while also featuring DCI-P3 to enhance the experience with 83.8% screen-to-body ratio display. Meanwhile, for maximum durability and protection against scratch, the screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Performance

Behind the high-speed performance is Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa-core processor. It’s is paired with either 6GB or 8GB RAM, coupled with Adreno 630 GPU for high-level operations. The SoC has it’s highest kryo 385 Gold core clocked at 2.8GHz, while the lower core clocked at 1.8GHz. Coupled with MIUI 10 user interface, Xiaomi MI 8 Pro will outperform the previous series and will run Android 8.1 (Oreo) out of the box prior to Android Pie arrival.

Storage

Packed inside the Xiaomi MI 8 Pro is a total of 128GB internal memory. Though it lacks expansion via Micro SD, decent enough to store 1000+ pictures, videos, apps, and games.

Camera

The camera has been revamped compared to what is offered in MI 8. The sub sensor, which is basically for depth effect now features the same number of the pixel with the main shooter. It consist of dual 12MP f/1.8 aperture lens, 1/2.55” sensor size, massive 1.4um pixel, 4-axis OIS, and dual pixel PDAF. While on the sub shooter is 12MP f/2.4, 1/3.4”, 1.0um, Autofocus, and 2x optical zoom. Features include Dual-LED flash, wide angle, and HDR. It can shoot videos at both 2160p60fps and 1080p@30/240fps, while on the notch is a massive 20MP f/2.0 aperture lens. It features HDR, AI enchantments to enable you to get a blur background with a single sensor.

Security

While Apple has resolved to facial ID as only means of biometric authentication, Xiaomi is retaining the two as it announces MI 8 Pro featuring both face and fingerprint identification scanner. The face ID uses an infrared camera while for the fingerprint scanner is under-screen with 0.12s time to trigger.

Battery

The power-efficient chip couple with massive 3000mAh battery to deliver insane power performance. It charges through USB-C port while supporting Qualcomm Quick charge 4.0+ for an easy and fast refill.
