Xiaomi’s 2018 flagship device, Mi 8, will receive the MIUI 12.5 update as confirmed by the company’s executive. The device was released in 2018, running MIUI 10 on top of Android 8.1 (Oreo). In the last three years, the device has picked two Android OS updates and two MIUI updates. It’s currently running MIUI 12 on top of Android 10, and going by the recent report, the device will soon start receiving the MIUI 12.5 update. And no, the device won’t receive Android 11.
Xiaomi flagship phones receive just two Android OS updates throughout their support period. The Mi 8 received Android 10 last year with MIUI 12, which automatically rules out Android 11. However, MIUI 12.5 is certain and has also been confirmed by an executive.
According to Xiaomi’s head of the system software department, during a question & answer session with Mi Fans in China, reveals that Mi 8 will receive MIUI 12.5. He didn’t say when the update will start seeding, but given the pace at which the update has been rolling out, It will be soon. And with the features baked inside the new MIUI OS, you won’t notice what you’re missing without Android 11.
With MIUI 12.5, Xiaomi has improved the stability and performance of its Android skin. There has been an over 30% reduction in memory usage while power consumption is down by 25%. The update brings new system sounds, Super wallpapers, an improved haptic feedback system, and more. Interestingly, the update has extended support for MIUI+ to more device phones, and the recent update has added support for Redmi Air Dots 3 Pro TWS earphones.
Again, it’s unclear when Mi 8 will receive MIUI 12.5, but plans are already in the way. Hence, keep an eye on our tracker page to know when the update starts seeding. And when it does start rolling out, it will probably arrive for the Chinese ROM users first.
