The Xiaomi Proximity sensor issue has persisted till now, but it looks like the company is finally out to solve the issue. Mi fans have been complaining of this issue for months now, with Redmi Note 10 Pro and POCO F3 users at the heart of it. There were other complaints after upgrading to MIUI 12.5, and while some of them have been addressed, the problem has persisted for some people. And going by the recent reports, Xiaomi has signed a new deal that’ll see the proximity sensor issue fixed.
For starters, the proximity sensor on a smartphone is to detects nearby objects without physical contact. It works best when making phone calls to detect when the phone is close to your face to turn off the display. That prevents touch that might lead to ending your call accidentally and something of such. Of course, it comes with every smartphone, but that on some Xiaomi phones has been malfunctioning.
The company, in June, put up a questionnaire about the P-sensor issue to try to ascertain the root cause of the persistent problems. It seems they did and pushed OTAs to the affected device to solve this issue, but it looks to have continued for some people. That probably means it could be a hardware vulnerability, and given the recent development, it could be the case.
According to reports, Xiaomi has canceled its deal with Elliptic Lab – a supplier of proximity sensors. They have now signed a new agreement with Minghao Sensing – to fix the long-persistent issue. Meanwhile, it is unclear when the company will start supplying proximity sensors to Xiaomi. Also, if the issue is hardware-related, it means devices affected would never get a fix. Nevertheless, we expect Xiaomi to roll out updates in the coming weeks and months to solve this issue.
