Xiaomi officially announced the much-anticipated MIUI 13 Android skin in China on December 28, 2021. The latest iteration of MIUI presents fascinating features, although it’s more of optimizations and improvements to the system. However, the new User Interface has introduced new fonts, cool wallpapers, new privacy protection, and there’s a version for tablets.
Features of Xiaomi MIUI 13: Performance and improvements
Xiaomi is focusing on improving the stability of MIUI. The company came under fire after the release of MIUI 12, as users faced multiple bugs. With MIUI 12.5 Enhanced, they’ve addressed some of these bugs, and MIUI 13 seem to be on the same path. The company claims there has been a 15% improvement in app fluency with third-party apps. Interestingly, system apps have also been improved with 23% fewer dropped frames.
Xiaomi has improved the privacy of MIUI with the introduction of three new features. These include face verification protection, privacy watermark, and fraud protection. Xiaomi didn’t explain in detail, but we have seen the privacy watermark. It allows you to protect your privacy by adding watermarks to your images to avoid violation.
Meanwhile, fraud protection is the different measures Xiaomi has taken to prevent online and telecom fraud. Unfortunately, the feature is optimized for Chinese apps, and we doubt if it would be available Globally. The function is to warn users about E-fraud, installation of fraud application, official logo, and Transfer protection.
Other cool features of MIUI 13 are the new Mi San font and Wallpapers. During the official presentation, Xiaomi released new wallpapers, which they captured using 8K timelapse photography. Interestingly, it has been added to the wallpaper section if you run MIUI 13 beta. Otherwise, you can follow this link and download them.
The new MiSans system font has flat and minimal Opentype features. It can automatically adjust the height of hyphens to either upper or lower case alphabets. The font is available for Mi closed beta testers, and we hope for global availability.
Also, new widgets have been introduced. Again, another features of MIUI 13, which might not arrive on global units. The new additions support new widgets like “Super Countdown Day” and “Water Measuring Cup.”
Xiaomi MIUI 13 for iPad
The MIUI 13 for iPad was introduced in August during the unveiling of the Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro. That has been optimized to bring additional features to users. It will be easy to make use of the extra screen in real-time. The company has also optimized over 3000 apps in collaboration with developers.
Other improvements seen in Xiaomi MIUI for iPad include improved multitasking on a large screen. Also, there are new shortcuts to quickly switch between full-screen and windowed mode, window scaling, a global taskbar with drag and drop support. There’s support for keyboard shortcuts for enhanced productivity.
